3rd Grade Addition and Subtraction Word Problems
Multiplication/Division
Learn 1’s, 2’s, 3’s…..12’s
Then try to memorize it with the corresponding multiplication factor.
Let's say 5X7 =

Touch over each number and count by 5s. Stop at 7. So, you get 35.

Fractions
- numerator/denominator = 3/5 = proper fraction
- numerator/denominator = 8/7 = improper fraction
- Whole number and numerator/denominator = 9 and 7/8 [9 7/8] = mixed fraction
- Unit fraction =1/6 (numerator is always 1)
mixed fraction can be converted to improper fraction and vice versa = 9 7/8 = [(9X8) + 7]/8=79/8 = 9 7/8
To add or subtract fractions the denominator has to be the same number.
4/5+1/5=5/5=1
For fraction with different denominators, we need to find Lowest Common Factor (LCM) to find the sum and difference of fractions.
Let's say, for example:
3/5+2/3= (3/5) X (3/3) + (2/3) X (5/5) = 9/15+10/15 = 19/15
Here, LCM = 3X5 = 15
